Abstract

The aim of this paper is to assess the current problems and limitations in the development of tourism in the region of South and Eastern Serbia, as well as analysis of tourist traffic in this region. There are numerous natural and anthropogenic tourist values on the territory of the South and East Serbia region, which represent the comparative advantages of tourism development. This creates a certain level of competitiveness of the region, but this level is not satisfactory. In this paper, the measures and activities to be undertaken will be emphasized in order to improve the quality of the tourist offer, enable and promote the development of tourism in this region. These measures and activities should lead to creation of diversified tourist offer, to faster development of tourism and increase of tourist traffic in the destinations of this region. It is therefore important to identify both affirmative as well as limiting factors of tourism development in this area and to critically approach their analysis in order to improve the tourism development and raise the level of destinations competitiveness in the South and Eastern Serbia region.
